biomat-in database market toolkit financial toolikit regulatory toolkit biomat-in project general bilan (march 2015) press release closing of the interreg biomat-in project - lille - march 18th 2015 the aftermath of 4 years of financing, representing an investment of over 1.11m€ is the following: support tools to structure the sector and for market perception, elaboration of a technology offer and establishment of a long-lasting transnational support framework to assist the sector’s smes. through the biomat-in project, actions to improve transnational cooperation in north-western europe were conducted to strengthen the territorial framework for innovation and transfer of knowledge in the biomaterials field. 5 leading regional human health clusters ( eurasanté and atlanpole biotherapies in france, bioregio stern in germany, medlinkem in uk, liof in the netherlands), therefore over 250 biomaterials smes, worked together. biomat-in project resulted in: creation and online distribution of toolkits providing smes from partner regions with key information to ease their access into transnational markets : online directory of the biomaterial industry (126 smes and 67 research centres), market information and trends, funding instruments, regulations. stimulation of collaborations and emergence of transnational partnerships within the biomaterial industry: identification and spread through the needs and technology offer network (online biomaterial technology marketplace), organisation of 9 special interest groups on specific biomaterial-related topics. creation of a durable transnational framework in order to assist smes of the biomaterials field in the implementation of their transnational collaborative r&d project ideas: organisation of a “call for vouchers” to allow transnational r&d projects to benefit from feasibility studies (allocation of 6 vouchers). biomaterials (eg breast implants, prosthetic hips or knees, wound dressings with active ingredients release, contact lenses) are intended to interface with biological systems. directly linked to the extension of life expectation and the need for a better quality of life, biomaterials are indeed more and more used in innovative medical applications. they are already playing an important role in medical devices development, such as prostheses, tissue repair, drug delivery systems and diagnostic techniques. based on advanced polymer chemistry techniques, biotechnology, gene therapy, cell and tissue engineering, innovative biomaterials development will require new strategies for multidisciplinary research, involving academics and industrial partners. about biomat-in: project resulting from the interreg ivb north western europe projects call, supported by
